Pancakes for ‘Carnevale’ in Britain

Tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday in Great Britain. On this day, just like ‘Martedi Grasso’ in Italy, we celebrate by eating rich fatty foods before the Lent fasting period. Instead of ‘chiacchiere’, we eat pancakes, and so this day is also known as Pancake Day.

We may not have the glamour and excitement of masked balls in Venice, but in southern England we do have our own unique and slightly eccentric way of celebrating this day.

I’ve written an article about Pancake Day and these bizarre celebrations, you can read it on the British Council blog.

Happy Pancake Day to you all!!
